FCAC Roles and Responsibilities
 
Shared Responsibilities

All FCAC Attorneys and Social Services Staff:
– Visit with the client before every hearing
– Discuss important case decisions and case progress with the client
– Participate in every hearing
– Attend CPS Family Group Conferences and Permanency Conferences
– Participate in mediation
– Attend treatment team meetings or meetings with service providers
– Discuss issues with all relevant case contacts
– Independently evaluate proposed placements and potential caregivers

 
 
Attorneys

FCAC can support both parents and children. We can be an attorney ad litem or guardian ad litem for a child, and we can be an attorney ad litem or guardian ad litem for a parent.

If FCAC attorneys are appointed for a child, either as an attorney ad litem or guardian ad litem, we:

– Advocate for appropriate special education accommodations and services in ARDs
– Appeal Medicaid denials for necessary services
– Ensure youth have what they need to transition out of care into adulthood

If FCAC Attorneys are appointed for a parent, either as an attorney ad litem or guardian ad litem, we:

– Advocate for appropriate and accommodated services on the family plan
– Ensure DFPS compliance with the ADA
